Helsinki Energy has chosen Meshnet as one of the key communication technologies for remote reading of electricity meters including control of circuit breakers when procuring 120.000 new electricity meters for the central parts of Helsinki. Important factors for Helsinki in the procurement w(h)ere life-cycle cost, flexibility and the possibility to meet future needs and requirements without making a complete reinvestment. The project has been running for 12 months and is expected to be completed on time at the end of 2009. MeshNET is used in individual apartments and houses as well as in meter blocks and meter rooms i.e. all use cases you find in a typical urban or suburban environment.
"We monitor the progress in the project on a daily basis and can clearly see that Meshnet has proven itself to be both easy to install as well as the robust and flexible communication solution we initially were looking for. We feel confident that the system will provide very high service levels also in the future. We also expect that our maintenance costs can be kept to a minimum since the self-configuring and self-healing characteristics of Meshnet will overcome most disturbances and errors that may occur in equipment or the public area network we utilize."
